Grit bin for the estate

Hi all, after I got in touch with you about the grit-bin at the end of 2010 I wrote to the Parish Council asking them to pay for a bin and some grit. Chorley Council had previously said they won't pay for one. I've attached a copy of the letter I sent and I'll let you know more once the Parish Council reply. Thanks to everyone who replied with information to support our application. Click here to read the letter.

  2. isnt it funny how you have to write to someone who doesnt even live in croston to have a grit bin, these are the people who oppose everything in croston being built, and dont even live round here, have you asked are any other grit bins mantained in croston ?, i ask because some snobs who live around here think that anywhere outside 1 mile from church street is san salvador, and live in shanty town ......

  4. Hi - I approached Chris Gibbons (a Parish Councillor who lives on our estate)asking him to comment on the post above from anonymous. Chris has asked me to post the following for him....

Alan Platt, "He who lives outside the village" is the parish council clerk. He is a paid employee of the Parish council who keeps all the administative side of the parish council in order. Alan has no say in any decisions made by the parish council other than advising us what is legal and within the statutory rules for parish councils.

If any group wants to to apply for funding, the statutory rules dictate that you must apply in writing to the clerk. Once an application has been received, then Alan is obliged to add it to the agenda of the next meeting for discussion by the council.

To receive the funding, a councillor will have to put forward a proposal that will need seconding. At this point it will go to a vote of all members of the council present. No proxy voting is allowed.

There is another twist. Anyone with a vested interest in the destination of funding will need to declare an interest. In the case of the grit bin I would have to do this as I am a member of the neighbourhood watch group applying.

With regard to the the grit bin. Send the application in to Alan and it will go to the next meeting. (April 13th) It is my understanding that due to the time of year Alan advised you to wait for some information relating to public liability of placing a grit bin. He now has this and will be forwarding his advice to you. If you want a decision then contact Alan and ask him to move it forward to the next meeting.

.....Thanks to Chris for taking the time to explain how the PC works.

  5. Thanks to Abby for getting the bin and to whoever has been gritting the hill the last couple of days. It's looking more and more like we are going to be seeing the benefit of it later today.
