Roundabout at entrance to the estate

I got an email earlier this week from Chris Gibbons who lives on the estate. Chris is concerned about the roundabout at the entrance to the estate and has been in touch with Lancashire County Council about his concerns. Chris has asked me to post the following message paragraph asking for resident's opinions about the roundabout.
Following a series of near misses I have had on the roundabout at the entrance to Jubilee Way I decided to notify Lancashire County Council of my concerns about the safety. I feel that the Jubilee Way roundabout is pretty much ignored by a large number of road users. Either they do not realise it is there, they do  not understand how to use a mini roundabout or they are chancers that expect the other user to give way when they shouldn't have too. Anyway, following my correspondance with LCC nothing is going to change, which to be honest is what I expected. (Except a repaint.) I was wondering what the thoughts of other residents are. Should we campaign for the roundabout to be replaced by a Give Way or STOP line? I think that one of these options would be better in respect of safety as the line would be higher up the slope so a better line of sight would be available to vehicles leaving Jubilee Way. Also, users on Jubilee way would know that they are on the minor road and this would remove the confusion that seems to occur on a regular basis in which cars on Moor Road fail to give way
If you want to have your say about the roundabout and respond to Chris please just post a comment and let him have your opinions about the entrance to the estate.

  2. Totally agree with the other comments, only this morning did a car approaching from Moor Road fail to give way to his right as per usual! Not sure which would be more effective a give way or a stop line, but something definately must be done as it is getting alot worse. Perhaps more signage alerting road users to the roundabout would be a help?

  3. somebody is going to get killed or injured at this junction. road users on moor road seem largely ignorant on the way to approach a roundabout and just painting a stop line won't alter their behaviour. perhaps the police need to be asked to pay some attention in one of their fancy plain cars and stop a few drivers. the council should be asked to paint some rubble strips or other attention grabbing markings on either approach to the junction and as nicky says more signage needs putting up. it will get worse once the new build across the road is occupied. we should all support chris and get behind a residents letter to our local councillor or MP insisting this is done. god forbid there is an accident then we can make sure the papers know about this and their neglect although this won't help the poor soul who ends up being cut out of the wreckage.

  4. totally agree that in the 9 years I have had so many near misses when turning right from Moor road onto the estate. Oncoming traffic do not realise that they have to give way from the right and I am surprised that there has not been a serious accident.

  5. It appears that everyone who has replied to this has, more or less, had the same experiences regarding the safety of the roundabout - so if most of the residents are in agreement then maybe the council will do something to make the uneducated motorists more aware of their approach to the roundabout and keep us all a lot safer.

  6. I wonder if the way to approach this is to start making a note of the incidents as they happen and either report them to the police or keep a log based on the experience of the whole estate that we can use as some tangible evidence of the problem. I'm sure we stand a better chance of getting some action if we can quantify the number of near misses. it's alot harder to argue against the actual facts based on our collective experience. I guess the difficult part is co-ordinating this as somebody will have to volunteer to do this.

  7. i agree with the comments, but ill ad they need some kind of rumble strip to slow the cars down coming over the bridge, you can see their faces like they have some god given right to fly over the bridge and run straight over both roundabouts ..... they couldnt stop even if they wanted too ..... thell kill somebody ... its a matter of time ..... :(

  8. Some weeks ago I was returning home to Jubilee Way with my daughter in the passenger seat. I was approaching from Moor Road to turn right onto the estate near the line. I could see a vehicle approaching at speed from the bridge and realised that he wasn't going to stop. I slammed on in the middle of the roundabout and sounded my horn. This enraged middle aged man the took it upon himself to wind down his window and shout at me. I carried on home and this man decided to follow us home. He was so convinced that it was his right of way. He carried on swearing but then took of when he realised my husband was at home. Wouldn't wish this on anyone else, it was terrifying but as people have stated much worse is surely going to happen !!

  9. I'm always nearly being ploughed into, either by a car that assumes I'm indicating right to go to Bretherton?!! or by cars going too fast over the bridge and nearly flattening me and the dogs on foot - someone's gonna get killed
